InstitutionSingHealth Academy — Singapore Health Services

Scope30+ rooms, 88 HD signals
SolutionENC1200 encoders, DSS-CM800 servers, TMP100 platform

More than eighty HD signals, thirty-odd rooms, and a tutor who can mark the moment the debrief has to replay.

Four clinical views per session: the team, the field, the instrument and the patient monitor.

The challenge

SingHealth Academy supports healthcare education across Singapore Health Services, and its simulation centre is the largest in Asia. Rooms convert into replicas of an operating theatre, an intensive care unit or a general ward; the centre runs more than thirty of them, from procedure rooms and simulation labs to debrief rooms and an auditorium, and carries more than eighty HD cameras plus VGA feeds from patient monitors and laptops. The centre needed the training recorded for later study, live streaming into debrief rooms and anywhere with internet, the ability to mark a recording while it happens, two-way audio and video between the academy and the simulated operating theatre, and central control of every room.

What Reach deployed

An ENC1200 encoder in each room captures the HD camera and the VGA feed and encodes video and audio as H.264 and AAC for the IP network; 88 encoders feed five DSS-CM800 recording and streaming servers. A TMP100 general management platform ties the estate together — live streams, on-demand files and user rights in one place — with MMP100 EncoderManager at each control station for signal monitoring and MES100 for editing. Nine DEC1000 decoders sit on the simulated operating theatre side to carry live streams back and forth, which is what makes two-way teaching possible.

How it works

  1. Every room encodes locally, so a session is on the network within seconds of starting.
  2. The servers record and stream, with up to four HD signals in one session and each signal expandable to full screen.
  3. A tutor marks the session from the AMX touch panel; the bookmark is what the debrief jumps to.
  4. Decoders close the loop, sending live pictures and sound between the academy and the simulated operating theatre for two-way communication.

Outcome

  • Four HD signals recorded and streamed per session, out of a pool of more than eighty.
  • Bookmarks taken during the session turn a two-hour recording into a two-minute debrief.
  • Two-way audio and video let a remote faculty teach into the simulated theatre.
  • One platform covers record, stream, review, edit, publish and rights.
