Product introduction

Reach Edge Node 4K ENC1400N is a dedicated 4K hardware encoder — the capture node of a Reach Edge distributed recording system. It takes one HDMI and one SDI source, loops both through to local displays, and encodes the picture to an IP stream with H.264 or H.265 at up to 60 fps and a maximum 3840 × 2160 resolution.

Camera video, PC / presentation content and microphone audio are encoded at the room edge and delivered over the standard IP network to a Reach Edge Media Server, so a single server can record many rooms without a recorder in each one. The chassis is compact — two ENC1400N units fit side by side in a standard rack — and a 2-inch display on the front shows the device IP address and version, with two indicators reporting signal presence and system status.

On the network side the encoder speaks standard RTSP as well as the Reach private EncoderManager protocol, so it works with Reach Edge Media Servers, the video management platform and the supervision platform — and can feed no fewer than two meeting rooms at the same time.

System connection

An HD camera and a PC / presentation source feed the encoder — the camera over SDI and the PC over HDMI, with the camera also controlled over RS232. The encoder delivers the encoded stream to the IP network over its LAN port and reaches the Reach Edge Media Server and the supervision platform; viewers watch live or on demand from the media server.

14K HDMI capture with loop-out

• 1 × HDMI input, I or P signal format, up to 3840 × 2160 @ 30 / 60 fps and down to 1280 × 720 @ 25.
• 1 × HDMI loop-through output lets a local monitor or projector show the same picture without extra distribution hardware.

2SDI capture with loop-out

• 1 × SDI input, I or P signal format, up to 1920 × 1080 @ 30 / 60 fps and down to 1280 × 720 @ 25.
• 1 × SDI loop-through output mirrors the incoming SDI picture for a confidence monitor or a second destination.

3H.264 / H.265 encoding, up to 60 fps

• Choose H.264 for broad compatibility or H.265 for the same picture at a lower bit rate.
• CBR rate control, adjustable from 512 kbps to 8192 kbps; frame rate 25 / 60 fps; encoding resolutions up to 3840 × 2160.
• Encoding resolution, frame rate, bit rate and I-frame interval are all set from the web page.

4Audio in

• 1 × Line-In or the audio embedded in the HDMI signal.
• AAC audio encoding at 48 kHz; a DIP switch selects the audio input source.

5Open protocols, distributed recording

• Standard RTSP streams plus the Reach private EncoderManager protocol.
• Connects to Reach Edge Media Servers, the video management platform and the unified supervision platform; a single encoder serves no fewer than two meeting rooms at the same time.

6Camera remote control

• RS232 camera-control port drives pan, tilt and zoom from the encoder.

• Subtitle settings, time synchronisation and an optional on-screen time display.
• Web interface in Chinese or English, so the same hardware fits local and international teams.

8Embedded platform, easy to deploy and maintain

• Embedded operating system on dedicated hardware — stable, and quick to bring into service.
• Compact chassis: two units fit side by side in a standard rack; the 2-inch display shows IP address and version.
• Firmware upgrade, downgrade and reboot are all done from the web page.

9Reset and recovery

• Power the unit on while holding the reset button for about 5 seconds; after the reboot the IP address returns to the default 192.168.4.188.
• Connect a computer directly to the encoder on the same subnet, open the web page and set the new IP address.

Numbers 1–3 are on the front panel, 4–14 on the rear panel. The numbers below match the labels on the unit.
